Korean coach ‘absurdly fired’ Indian archery, women’s team event ousted
The Indian archery team, which recently fired coach Baek Woong-ki in France while leading the Indian team to the 2024 Paris Olympics, lost to the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of the women’s team archery event and was eliminated in its first match.
According to local media outlets such as the Indian Express on the 23rd, coach Baek was notified by the Indian Olympic Committee (IOA) to return home, saying, “There is no need for him to take on the role of coaching the national team,” while waiting for the AD card, which is an identification card for entering the stadium and athlete’s village, upon arriving in Paris, France. This means that
the IOA has only assigned four AD cards to the archery team coaching staff, and five coaches went to Paris and decided to exclude coach Baek from the on-site coaching staff.
The IOA explained that after comprehensively considering various factors such as communication with the players and the bond between them, they decided to assign the role of guiding the players on the field to the two coaches instead of Coach Baek.
This is effectively a dismissal notice to Coach Baek. Coach Baek’s contract with the Archery Association of India ends on August 30, and this Olympics was his last stage to lead the Indian archery team. As a result, the Indian
women’s archery team, which participated in the Paris Olympics without Coach Baek, lost 0-6 (51-52, 49-54, 48-53) to the Netherlands in the quarterfinals held at Les Invalides in Paris, France on the 28th (Korean time).
After falling behind 51-52 after shooting 7 points in a row in the first set, the Indian team failed to show their full potential in the second set, shooting 6 points twice. In the end, they self-destructed by recording a shocking score of 4 points in the last third set. The match ended with a crushing defeat for the Indian team, and they failed to advance to the semifinals. 안전놀이터
