South Korea, bidding for a third consecutive Asian Games gold medal, opened its men’s soccer group stage campaign at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games with an emphatic 9-0 victory. Hwang Sun-hong’s side cruised to a 9-0 victory over Kuwait in their men’s football Group E match at the Jinhua Sports Center Stadium in Zhejiang, China, on Monday .South Korea opened the scoring with an early goal from Jung Woo-young (Stuttgart) in the third minute of the first half, before exploding for four goals in the second half and five more in the third. Jung scored a goal in the 45th minute and another in the third minute of the second half to complete his hat trick in the match. Cho Young-wook (Gimcheon) also scored in the 19th and 29th minutes, while Baek Seung-ho (Jeonbuk) added a goal in the 44th minute, Uhm Won-sang (Ulsan) in the 7th minute, Park Jae-yong (Jeonbuk) in the 35th minute, and Ahn Jae-joon (Bucheon) in stoppage time to make light work of Kuwait, which has been dubbed the ‘stomach bug of the Middle East’. With the win, South Korea will play their second group game against Thailand on Nov. 21.Hwang Sun-hong deployed Cho Young-wook and Ko Young-joon (Pohang) up front, with Jung Woo-young and Uhm Won-sang on the wings.
