The Korea Volleyball Federation (President Cho Won-tae) announced that it will hold the 2023 Gumi and Dodram Cup professional volleyball competition at Gumi Park Chung-hee Gymnasium for a total of 16 days from July 29 (Sat) to August 13 (Sun).
On July 29 (Sat), the women’s Korea Expressway Corporation and Pepper Savings Bank will open the competition, and on August 6 (Sun), the men’s competition will begin with a match between Korean Air and Woori Card.
Gumi City, the venue of the tournament, has been reunited with professional volleyball for the first time in about six years and four months since March 2017, the last game of the 16-17 season, with LIG Insurance, the predecessor of KB Insurance, with the last game of the 16-17 season.
As 37,000 spectators visited the Suncheon-Dodram Cup professional volleyball tournament in 2022, it is expected that a hot volleyball feast will continue in the upcoming tournament in Gumi City.
14 teams from the men’s and women’s divisions of the V League and 1 team from men’s and women’s overseas club teams will be invited to participate in the tournament, with a total of 16 teams. In the men’s division, Group A, which includes Korean Air, Woori Card, KB Insurance, and OK Financial Group, and Group B, which includes KEPCO, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Hyundai Capital, and Panasonic Panthers, will play the group stage, respectively.
The women’s team was assigned through a lottery, and Group A Korea Expressway Corporation, Pepper Savings Bank, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, KGC Ginseng Corporation, Group B Heungkuk Life Insurance, IBK Industrial Bank of Korea, GS Caltex, and Supreme Village will compete.
In this tournament, players who changed into new uniforms during the off-season stand out.
Major transfer players include Hwang Seung-bin, who moved to KB Insurance through a one-on-one trade, Han Sung-jung, who returned to Woori Card after a year and a half, and OK Financial Group Song Hee-chae and Woori Card Song Myung-geun, who exchanged uniforms.
In the women’s division, Park Jung-ah and Jung Dae-young, the main players of the Korea Expressway Corporation’s victory last season, moved to Pepper Savings Bank and GS Caltex, respectively, while Hwang Min-kyung moved to IBK Industrial Bank and Kim Soo-ji moved to Heungkuk Life Insurance.
