TIRED OF WAITING WEST HAM GIVE UP SIGNING FORMER MAN

West Ham United have withdrawn their interest in signing Manchester United’s “former captain” Harry Maguire.According to British newspapers The Guardian and Sports Illustrated on Friday (Nov. 15), the Hammers have decided to abandon their pursuit of Maguire after a series of delays in the transfer process. The Hammers had agreed to a £30 million transfer fee with United. There was also an agreement between the Hammers and the player, so it looked like the transfer would go through without a hitch. However, the “compensation talks” between the outgoing Maguire and the incoming United stalled.Maguire’s weekly wages would be reduced in a transfer. At United, he was able to get a pay rise for qualifying for the UEFA Champions League (UCL), but at West Ham, who finished the 2022-2023 season in 14th place, this is not possible. With no sign of resolution between Maguire and United, who were demanding compensation for the reduction in weekly wages, West Ham were the first to pull out of the deal.According to the Guardian, Maguire is seeking compensation in the neighborhood of £7 million.Maguire donned the United captain’s armband in January 2020 and has been the club’s go-to defender ever since, but his place in the side has been limited since the arrival of Eric Tenakh in April last year.Tenakh favors Rafael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in central defense over the slower and less agile Maguire.Maguire made 16 regular-season appearances last season, but he fell off the manager’s radar, making just eight starts. He was even handed back his captain’s armband on the 17th.With Tenakh wanting Maguire to leave, West Ham manager David Moyes was interested in the player, but the deal never materialized.Having abandoned their pursuit of Maguire, the Hammers are now looking at alternatives, according to the Guardian and The Athletic.Maguire’s contract with United runs until 2025. No other club has made a clear bid for him, so it’s likely he’ll be living in “uncomfortable quarters” for the foreseeable future. After being stripped of the captaincy, Maguire took to social media to say, “I’m very disappointed. But I’m going to give it my all in the Man Utd shirt,” he said 스포츠토토존 on social media.
