Kim Min-Jae to miss season finale against Hoffenheim

As expected, South Korean defender Kim Min-jae (28), who plays for Germany’s most prestigious club, Bayern Munich, will miss the final match of the 2023-2024 Bundesliga season due to injury.

Bayern Munich will host TSG Hoffenheim in the final match of the 34th round of the 2023-2024 German Bundesliga at the Frisero Arena in Sinsheim, Germany, on Aug. 18 at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Munich will leave without a single trophy this season, but that doesn’t mean the match is without significance. Munich currently has 23 wins, three draws, and seven losses (72 points). They are two points ahead of third-place Stuttgart (70 points). If Munich loses to Hoffenheim today and Stuttgart wins against Borussia Mönchengladbach at the same time, the standings will change.

Munich must finish second to qualify for the German Football League (DFL) Super Cup, which will be played just before the start of next season. This season’s DFB Pokal, the equivalent of the Korea Cup in South Korea and the FA Cup in England, pits Bundesliga champions Leverkusen against second-place Kaiserslautern. If Leverkusen wins and completes the “double” with the Bundesliga, it will be Leverkusen and Munich in the Super Cup next season.

In this situation, Munich fielded a 1.5-man lineup.

Manuel Neuer will pull on the goalkeeping gloves for the away side. Dayo Upamecano, Matej Der Licht and Eric Dier form the back three, with Alfonso Davies, Josua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Konrad Reimer in midfield. Thomas Muller and Leon Goretzka form the second midfield, with Matthijs Tell up front.

Kim Min-Jae is not in the squad due to the ankle injury he suffered against Wolfsburg a week ago. He sprained his ankle in that game, and while it’s not a serious injury, Munich made his absence known by excluding him from the final training session before the match.

The hosts are seventh in the Bundesliga with 43 points.

Oliver Baumann started in goal, with Ozan Kabak, Florian Grillich and Kevin Akpogoma in the back three. Pavel Kaderabek, Grisha Fremel, Anton Stach, and Mariusz Wolter formed the midfield. The front three was Andrej Kramaric, Maximilian 안전놀이터 Bayer, and Ilas Bebow.

The match has more significance for Munich than just second place.

Tuchel, who took over in March last year, will be stepping down after one year and two months in charge of Munich.

“This is my last press conference at the Sabener Strasse (Munich training ground),” Tuchel said at his pre-match press conference against Hoffenheim on Sunday. “We talked, but we didn’t reach an agreement. “We talked, but we didn’t reach an agreement, so the decision in February stands,” he said, adding that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Earlier, German media, including Sky Sports Germany, reported that Tuchel’s stay in Munich was looking increasingly likely after talks between the Munich board and Tuchel. “Munich’s board and Tuchel’s camp held talks on Friday and now the Bavarians want to keep him for the new season,” Sky Sports reported, adding that “after several rejections, the Bavarians are looking to reverse their decision in February.”

The idea was that Tuchel would reverse his February decision to leave the club at the end of the season and sign a new contract that would take him beyond next season, as well as beyond 2026, as originally stipulated in his contract. However, Tuchel’s decision to leave the club was a clear indication of the lack of confidence in him by the Munich hierarchy. Tuchel has been touted as the next manager of Manchester United in the Premier League.
