Signs At The End of The Season

“I have no regrets, but I have many special memories. The best memories in my heart are yet to come.”

German coach Jurgen Klopp (56), who announced to leave Liverpool after the 2023-2024 season, said something significant.

According to BBC Sport on the 27th, Klopp said he was “confident” that leaving Anfield was “right” and that he had “no regrets” about such a decision.

Earlier on Sunday, he said he would step down after the end of this season, causing a stir in the English soccer community. It was even more shocking as Liverpool could aim for the quadruple title this season.

Liverpool ranks first in this season’s English Premier League, beating Manchester City, which achieved the feat of treble last season. At the Carabao Cup (EFL), Liverpool has advanced to the final, and only the final against Chelsea is left.

It has advanced to the fourth round at the FA Cup, and the round of 16 tournaments at the Europa League (UEL). Although it failed to advance to the UEFA Champions League, it would be a remarkable achievement if it wins four gold medals.

Klopp expressed regret that this season his team realized “resources are not infinite” while they continued to compete for four trophies.

“I’ve been in this for 24 years. I’ve always invested everything I have. I’ve recognized that my resources are not endless. After taking care of everything this season, I want to take a break or stop. Whatever. We’re not little rabbits anymore, we don’t jump the high way we did,” he said.

Klopp, who has been in charge of Liverpool since October 2015, succeeded in renewing his contract in April 2022 and is supposed to lead the team until 2026. At the time, he said he was “100% confident” that he would continue until 2026.

However, Klopp suddenly announced his breakup just as this season was in full swing. In fact, Klopp had to have a tough season last season, finishing the EPL in fifth place without lifting any championship trophy. Last summer, his team had difficulties rebuilding itself.

“I can’t go out on three wheels, and I don’t want to be a passenger. My managerial abilities are based on energy and relationships,” he said.

Klopp beat Tottenham in the Champions League final in the 2018-2019 season to give Liverpool its sixth European Cup. He also lifted the EPL trophy in the 2019-2020 season. It was a splendid feat for Liverpool in 30 years.

“I already told the club in November. I can understand that a lot of people were shocked when they first heard it at this moment, but I can definitely explain it,” he said of his late-season resignation.

“I really love everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But for me to still make this decision, it shows that it’s a decision that I have to make,” he explained.

Klopp said, “I’m running out of energy. I don’t have a problem now. Obviously, I’ve known for a long time that I have to announce it one day. It’s absolutely fine now. I know I can’t do it over and over again.” 스포츠토토
