‘The next Harry Kane’, Fostecoglue falls in love… Tottenham contemplate landing ‘top prospect’
Tottenham are considering the development of Jamie Donley, 18.
The England international is considered one of Tottenham’s top prospects. A left-footed player, Donley doesn’t have a ton of speed or power, but he does have excellent technique, and he’s a good passer with a wide range of vision. In recent years, he has played both striker and attacking midfielder.
Donli was a prolific scorer for Tottenham’s U-18 team in the 2021-22 season, with 16 goals in 18 games. In 2022-23, he spent the first half of the season with the U-21 team, scoring three goals in 21 games.
This season, after playing eight games for the U-21s, Donley was named to the first team roster. He was included in the squad for round seven against Liverpool and round 12 against Wolverhampton. While he didn’t make his Premier League debut, it shows how highly regarded he is within the Tottenham organization.
Tottenham manager Enze Postecoglou is also a big fan of Donli’s abilities. “Donli is one of the most anticipated players at Tottenham and Postecoglou has been impressed with him,” he explained, according to Team Talk.
The report went on to say that Spurs are worried. “Spurs have to think about Donli’s future. It’s time to decide whether to keep him in the first-team squad or send him out on loan in search of regular game time.”
In the long run, a loan is the best way to get consistent playing time and development.
However, Tottenham are currently experiencing an exodus in their attacking lineup. He’s injured, and in January they’ll lose key player Son Heung-min to the Asian Cup. They could be looking to add another striker in January. Tottenham will have to weigh up the options and make a decision on Donli’s future.
